Mentoring with an experienced Mentor

Investing in the Future

Mentoring is a very important role. I have been very fortunate to be involved in mentoring programs for over ten years.

I spent three years as a mentee with different mentors, then a further four years as a mentor. These were through a company program, but I now undertake mentoring in my personal time. If you are interested in a mentor, please contact me!

I specialize in mentoring using the GROW model.

My qualifications for the mentoring role:

  • Introduction to the theory of mentoring
  • Being a good mentor
  • Effective listening
  • How to be a good mentor and mentee
  • Mentoring others

Here is testimony from one of my recent mentees, a great success story.

"At the start of my internship, I was anxious but excited to begin a new chapter. I had little knowledge of what exactly needed to be done to put myself in a good position to enter the workforce upon my graduation in December, and I had a “day-by-day” mindset that didn’t look much into my future.

It wasn’t until Nick came forward and offered his insight & mentorship that I truly began to see the potential of my life and career after college.

It was a great feeling having an individual come forward and tell you that they truly believe in YOU as a person and the potential that you have. I felt seen, and jumped at the opportunity to allow someone to guide me in the right direction to ensure my success.

I wasn’t sure what to expect through this mentorship, but in the end I gained so many different things. I gained motivation and a “go-getter” mindset that is going to allow me to push myself just a little bit further to achieve success.

I gained professional skills and insight on how to present the best version of myself to the world, gaining the attention of employers and recruiters. I gained someone who held me accountable for my future. Lastly, I gained a cheerleader and a forever friend.

Nick has done more for me than I could have ever imagined. He lit the spark in me that had dulled from countless hours spent in a virtual classroom, waiting for my turn to do something great. He invoked a confidence in me that I never knew I had, and opened up countless doors for me. I owe so much to him and I would absolutely recommend this partnership to fellow and future interns.

It is great having someone outside of your department as your mentor that will focus on you and your individual successes.

Nick is an amazing individual and his skill in working with young adults (and even those who may be well into their careers) should absolutely not go to waste. He truly has so much advice and insight to give and I am so blessed to have been the first of this company to have this experience."

I am so thankful for everything he has done!"

The key points to recognise are that:

  • Mentors will facilitate your thinking. They won't tell you what to do.
  • You should expect a mentoring relationship based on trust, confidentiality, mutual respect, and sensitivity.
  • Mentoring requires clear boundaries between the mentor and mentee which you should be involved in agreeing.
  • Engagement with your mentor on an ongoing basis is crucial for the success of the scheme for all parties. Walking away when you have 'got what you need' from the scheme without any regard for the longer term relationships or the consequences for the mentor and the scheme organiser is to be avoided.
  • You will be expected to drive the relationship take increasing responsibility for your own self-reflection and development.
  • You will be encouraged to identify goals, challenges and set priorities.
